Make this creamy banana oatmeal on the stovetop in under 10 minutes for a naturally sweet and satisfying breakfast.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 cup rolled oats (old-fashioned)
  • 2 cups water or milk (dairy or non-dairy)
  • 1 large ripe banana, mashed
  • 1/2 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • 1 pinch salt
  • 1 teaspoon honey or maple syrup (optional, for extra sweetness)

Instructions

  1. Combine the rolled oats, water or milk, mashed banana, cinnamon, and salt in a medium saucepan.
  2. Place the saucepan over medium heat.
  3. Bring the mixture to a gentle simmer, stirring occasionally.
  4. Reduce the heat to low and continue to cook for 5 to 7 minutes, stirring frequently until the oats absorb most of the liquid and reach a creamy consistency.
  5. Remove from heat. Stir in honey or maple syrup, if using.
  6. Divide the oatmeal into bowls. Serve immediately with your favorite toppings.

Notes

  • For extra creaminess, use whole milk or a high-fat non-dairy milk like oat or soy milk.
  • Mash the banana well before adding it to ensure it blends smoothly into the oats.
  • Consider this recipe a base; add peanut butter or chopped nuts for extra protein.
  • This recipe is a good alternative to complex meal planning; it is quick enough for busy mornings.
