Ingredients
Scale
1 3/4 cups all-purpose flour
3/4 cup granulated sugar
1/2 cup packed light brown sugar
1/2 cup unsweetened cocoa powder
1 teaspoon baking soda
1/2 teaspoon baking powder
1/2 teaspoon salt
1 cup mashed very ripe bananas (about 3 medium)
1/2 cup unsalted butter, melted
2 large eggs, lightly beaten
1 teaspoon vanilla extract
1/2 cup milk (whole or 2%)
1 cup semi-sweet chocolate chips, divided
Instructions
Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease and flour a 9×5 inch loaf pan.
In a large bowl, whisk together the flour, granulated sugar, brown sugar, cocoa powder, baking soda, baking powder, and salt. This is your dry mix.
In a separate medium bowl, mix the mashed bananas, melted butter, eggs, and vanilla extract until just combined.
Pour the wet ingredients into the dry ingredients. Mix with a spatula until just combined. Do not overmix; a few streaks of flour are fine.
Gently fold in 3/4 cup of the chocolate chips.
Pour the batter into the prepared loaf pan. Sprinkle the remaining 1/4 cup of chocolate chips over the top.
Bake for 55 to 65 minutes, or until a wooden skewer inserted into the center comes out with moist crumbs attached, but not wet batter.
Let the bread cool in the pan for 15 minutes before carefully turning it out onto a wire rack to cool completely.
Notes
For the moist banana bread recipe you are looking for, use bananas that are heavily spotted or almost black.
To make this a one bowl banana bread, you can melt the butter and then mix the wet ingredients directly into the dry ingredients, stirring until just combined.
If you want a fudgy banana bread texture, slightly underbake by checking at 50 minutes.
