A simple and delicious semi-homemade apple dessert made with crescent rolls and a buttery cinnamon syrup, perfect for fall baking.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 2 cans (8 ounces each) refrigerated crescent rolls
  • 2 large apples, peeled, cored, and sliced
  • 1 cup (2 sticks) unsalted butter
  • 1 cup granulated sugar
  • 1 cup packed light brown sugar
  • 1/2 cup lemon-lime soda
  • 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • 1/2 teaspoon ground nutmeg
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • Vanilla ice cream, for serving

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C). Grease a 9×13 inch baking dish.
  2. Unroll the crescent dough and separate it into triangles. Place one apple slice on the wide end of each triangle and roll up tightly. Place the rolled dumplings seam-side down in the prepared baking dish.
  3. In a medium saucepan, melt the butter over medium heat. Stir in the granulated sugar, brown sugar, lemon-lime soda, cinnamon, nutmeg, and salt. Bring to a boil, stirring constantly.
  4. Pour the hot syrup evenly over the apple dumplings in the baking dish.
  5. Bake for 30-40 minutes, or until the dumplings are golden brown and the syrup is bubbly.
  6. Let cool slightly before serving. Serve warm with a scoop of vanilla ice cream.

Notes

  • You can substitute Mountain Dew for the lemon-lime soda for a different flavor profile.
  • Ensure your apples are firm and hold their shape when baked, such as Honeycrisp or Fuji.
  • For a gluten-free option, consider using a store-bought gluten-free crescent roll dough if available, or adapt with your favorite gluten-free pastry.
