Make this rich, savory appetizer inspired by the classic cocktail. It combines blue cheese, cream cheese, and briny olives for a dip ready in minutes, perfect for your next gathering.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 16 ounces cream cheese, softened
  • 8 ounces blue cheese, crumbled
  • 1 cup sour cream
  • 3/4 cup finely diced green olives (pimento removed)
  • 1/2 cup olive brine
  • 2 ounces gin or vodka (optional, for authentic flavor)
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder
  • Salt and black pepper to taste
  • Diced olives and a drizzle of olive oil for garnish

Instructions

  1. Place the softened cream cheese, blue cheese, sour cream, diced olives, olive brine, garlic powder, and optional alcohol into a medium mixing bowl.
  2. Use an electric mixer or a sturdy spoon to combine all ingredients until the mixture is smooth and creamy. Mix until the blue cheese is mostly incorporated but some small chunks remain for texture.
  3. Season the dip with salt and pepper to your taste. Remember the brine is salty.
  4. Transfer the dip to a serving bowl. Cover the bowl and chill in the refrigerator for at least 30 minutes to allow the flavors to meld. This step is important for the best taste.
  5. Before serving, garnish the top with a sprinkle of fresh diced olives and a light drizzle of olive oil.
  6. Serve cold with crackers, pita chips, or fresh vegetables.

Notes

  • For a make-ahead appetizer, prepare the dip up to 2 days in advance and keep it covered in the refrigerator. Add the garnish just before serving.
  • If you skip the alcohol, you can add 1 teaspoon of white wine vinegar for a slight tang.
  • This dip pairs well with items used in meal planning, like celery sticks or bell pepper strips.
