Ingredients
Scale
4 large ripe bananas, peeled, sliced, and frozen solid
1/4 cup unsweetened almond milk (or other milk substitute)
1 teaspoon pure vanilla extract
Instructions
Prepare your bananas: Peel and slice the ripe bananas into coins. Place them in a single layer on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper. Freeze for at least 6 hours, or until completely solid.
Combine ingredients: Place the frozen banana slices, almond milk, and vanilla extract into a high-powered blender or food processor.
Blend until smooth: Start blending on a low speed, stopping frequently to scrape down the sides. The mixture will look crumbly at first, then creamy, and finally resemble soft-serve ice cream. This may take 3 to 5 minutes, depending on your machine.
Serve immediately for a soft serve texture, or transfer to a freezer-safe container and freeze for 1 to 2 hours for a firmer scoopable texture.
Notes
For a richer flavor, substitute the almond milk with 2 tablespoons of natural peanut butter for a peanut butter banana dessert variation.
If your mixture is too thick to blend, add the milk one tablespoon at a time until the blades move freely.
For the best results, use very ripe bananas; the riper they are, the sweeter your final healthy frozen treat will be.
