A spicy wellness shot made with apple cider vinegar, garlic, ginger, and peppers, inspired by Rosemary Gladstar’s immune-boosting tonic.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 2 cups organic apple cider vinegar
  • 1/2 cup chopped fresh ginger
  • 1/2 cup chopped fresh horseradish root
  • 1/2 cup chopped garlic cloves
  • 1/4 cup chopped cayenne pepper (or other hot peppers)
  • 1/4 cup dried echinacea root
  • 1/4 cup dried elderberries
  • 2 tablespoons dried thyme
  • 2 tablespoons dried rosemary
  • 1 tablespoon dried oregano
  • 1 tablespoon dried cinnamon
  • 1 tablespoon dried cloves
  • 1 tablespoon dried turmeric
  • 1 tablespoon dried black peppercorns
  • 1/4 cup raw honey (optional, for sweetness)

Instructions

  1. Combine apple cider vinegar, ginger, horseradish, garlic, cayenne pepper, echinacea root, elderberries, thyme, rosemary, oregano, cinnamon, cloves, turmeric, and black peppercorns in a clean glass jar.
  2. Stir to combine all ingredients.
  3. Seal the jar tightly and store in a cool, dark place for 4-6 weeks. Shake the jar daily.
  4. After steeping, strain the liquid through a cheesecloth or fine-mesh sieve into a clean jar. Discard the solids.
  5. If desired, stir in raw honey until dissolved.
  6. Store the fire cider in the refrigerator.

Notes

  • For a milder flavor, reduce the amount of cayenne pepper.
  • For a sweeter tonic, add more honey.
  • You can customize your fire cider by adding other herbs and spices like cinnamon sticks, star anise, or citrus peels.
  • Consume 1-2 tablespoons daily as a wellness shot or add to warm water or tea.
