Enjoy cozy fall mornings with these simple pumpkin cinnamon rolls. This recipe offers a quick hack using canned dough or a from-scratch option, topped with a decadent cream cheese frosting. Perfect for a festive breakfast or dessert.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 can (8 count) refrigerated crescent rolls or biscuit dough
  • 1/2 cup pumpkin puree
  • 1/4 cup packed brown sugar
  • 1 teaspoon pumpkin pie spice
  • 1/2 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • 1/4 cup butter, melted
  • For the Frosting:
  • 4 ounces cream cheese, softened
  • 1/4 cup butter, softened
  • 1 cup powdered sugar
  • 1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1–2 tablespoons milk

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C). Grease a baking dish.
  2. If using crescent rolls, unroll them and press the seams together to form a rectangle. If using biscuit dough, press them together.
  3. In a small bowl, mix together the pumpkin puree, brown sugar, pumpkin pie spice, and cinnamon.
  4. Spread the pumpkin mixture evenly over the dough rectangle.
  5. Drizzle the melted butter over the pumpkin mixture.
  6. Roll up the dough tightly, starting from one of the shorter sides. Pinch the seam to seal.
  7. Cut the roll into 8 equal slices.
  8. Place the slices cut-side up in the prepared baking dish.
  9. Bake for 20-25 minutes, or until golden brown and cooked through.
  10. While the rolls are baking, prepare the frosting. In a medium bowl, beat together the softened cream cheese and butter until smooth.
  11. Beat in the powdered sugar and vanilla extract until combined. Add milk, one tablespoon at a time, until the frosting reaches your desired consistency.
  12. Once the rolls are out of the oven, let them cool slightly before spreading the cream cheese frosting over the top.

Notes

  • For an overnight option, assemble the rolls, cover the baking dish tightly with plastic wrap, and refrigerate. Bake in the morning, adding a few extra minutes to the baking time.
  • You can freeze baked and cooled cinnamon rolls. Reheat them in the oven or microwave.
  • For a from-scratch dough, use your favorite yeast-based cinnamon roll recipe and incorporate pumpkin puree and spices into the filling.
  • Adjust the amount of milk in the frosting to achieve your preferred thickness.
