Make these incredibly flavorful, buttery garlic noodles in under 20 minutes. This recipe delivers the savory, umami taste you love from your favorite Asian restaurants using simple ingredients.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 pound dried noodles (like spaghetti or ramen)
  • 6 tablespoons unsalted butter
  • 1/4 cup fresh garlic, minced (use more for extra flavor)
  • 2 tablespoons soy sauce
  • 1 tablespoon oyster sauce (or vegetarian substitute)
  • 1 tablespoon Hoisin sauce
  • 1 teaspoon sesame oil
  • 1/4 cup reserved noodle water
  • 1/4 cup grated Parmesan cheese (optional, for richness)
  • 2 tablespoons chopped green onions, for garnish

Instructions

  1. Cook the noodles according to package directions until al dente. Before draining, reserve about 1/2 cup of the starchy cooking water. Drain the noodles and set aside.
  2. While the noodles cook, melt the butter in a large skillet or wok over medium heat.
  3. Add the minced fresh garlic to the melted butter. Cook for about 1 to 2 minutes, stirring constantly, until the garlic is fragrant. Do not let the garlic brown or burn.
  4. Reduce the heat to low. Stir in the soy sauce, oyster sauce, Hoisin sauce, and sesame oil into the garlic butter mixture. Mix well to combine the sticky garlic sauce.
  5. Add the cooked, drained noodles to the skillet. Toss everything together to coat the noodles evenly with the sauce.
  6. Pour in about 1/4 cup of the reserved noodle water. Toss continuously until the sauce thickens slightly and clings to the noodles. Add more water if the sauce seems too dry.
  7. If using, stir in the Parmesan cheese until melted and incorporated, adding extra richness.
  8. Remove from heat. Serve the garlic noodles immediately, garnished with chopped green onions.

Notes

  • For a spicy kick, add 1 teaspoon of chili garlic sauce or red pepper flakes when you add the other sauces.
  • If you want a main dish, toss in cooked shrimp, shredded chicken, or pan-fried tofu during the final mixing step.
  • Use high-quality fresh garlic; this ingredient makes the dish.
