Ingredients

Scale
  • 1.5 lbs salmon fillets, skin removed
  • 1 tablespoon olive oil
  • 1 tablespoon honey
  • 1 teaspoon smoked paprika
  • 1 teaspoon chili powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon ground cumin
  • 1/4 teaspoon cayenne pepper (optional, for spice)
  • Salt and black pepper to taste
  • 12 small corn or flour tortillas
  • For the Zesty Slaw:
  • 2 cups shredded green cabbage
  • 1/2 cup shredded purple cabbage
  • 1/4 cup chopped fresh cilantro
  • Juice of 1 lime
  • 1 tablespoon olive oil
  • Pinch of salt
  • For the Avocado Crema:
  • 1 ripe avocado
  • 1/4 cup sour cream or plain Greek yogurt
  • Juice of 1/2 lime
  • 1 tablespoon water (or more, for thinning)
  • Pinch of salt

Instructions

  1. Prepare the salmon seasoning: In a small bowl, mix together smoked paprika, chili powder, garlic powder, cumin, cayenne pepper (if using), salt, and pepper.
  2. Rub the salmon fillets evenly with 1 tablespoon of olive oil. Sprinkle the spice mixture over the salmon and press it gently to adhere. Drizzle the honey over the seasoned salmon.
  3. Cook the salmon: You can pan-sear, grill, or air fry. For pan-searing, heat a non-stick skillet over medium-high heat. Cook the salmon for 4-5 minutes per side until cooked through and slightly blackened. Flake the salmon gently with a fork once cooked.
  4. Prepare the zesty slaw: In a medium bowl, combine the green cabbage, purple cabbage, cilantro, lime juice, 1 tablespoon of olive oil, and a pinch of salt. Toss well to coat.
  5. Make the avocado crema: Combine the avocado, sour cream or yogurt, lime juice, water, and salt in a small food processor or blender. Blend until completely smooth, adding more water if needed to reach a drizzly consistency.
  6. Warm the tortillas according to package directions (skillet or microwave).
  7. Assemble the salmon tacos: Layer each warm tortilla with flaked blackened salmon, top generously with the zesty slaw, and finish with a drizzle of the creamy avocado crema. Serve immediately.

Notes

  • For a low-fat option, substitute the sour cream in the crema with plain Greek yogurt.
  • If you prefer grilled salmon tacos, marinate the salmon in lime juice for 15 minutes before seasoning and grilling.
  • You can prepare the slaw and crema up to one day ahead to make your weeknight salmon tacos even quicker.
