1 cup unsalted butter, softened
1 cup granulated sugar
1 large egg
1 teaspoon vanilla extract
2 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
1 teaspoon baking soda
1/2 teaspoon salt
Candy eyes (optional)
Black frosting or melted chocolate for legs and details
Instructions
Cream together butter and sugar until light and fluffy.
Beat in egg and vanilla extract.
In a separate bowl, whisk together flour, baking soda, and salt.
Gradually add dry ingredients to wet ingredients, mixing until just combined.
Chill dough for at least 30 minutes.
Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C). Line baking sheets with parchment paper.
Roll dough into 1-inch balls. Place on prepared baking sheets, about 2 inches apart.
Bake for 9-11 minutes, or until edges are lightly golden.
Let cookies cool on baking sheets for a few minutes before transferring to a wire rack to cool completely.
Once cool, attach candy eyes with a dab of frosting.
Use black frosting or melted chocolate to pipe legs and any other spider details.
Notes
For a nut-free version, ensure all ingredients are certified nut-free.
Use black licorice laces or piped black frosting for spider legs.
Melted chocolate can be used instead of black frosting for decorating.
Consider using mini chocolate chips for the spider body.
