You can make bakery-style vegan chocolate chip cookies that are soft, chewy, and loaded with chocolate chips without needing to chill the dough. This easy recipe uses simple ingredients for the ultimate plant based chocolate chip cookies.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 cup (226g) vegan butter, softened
  • 3/4 cup (150g) packed light brown sugar
  • 1/2 cup (100g) granulated sugar
  • 1 tablespoon plant-based milk (soy or almond work well)
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 2 1/4 cups (270g) all-purpose flour
  • 1 1/2 cups vegan semi-sweet chocolate chips

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Line two baking sheets with parchment paper.
  2. In a large bowl, cream together the softened vegan butter, brown sugar, and granulated sugar until the mixture is light and fluffy. You can use an electric mixer for this step.
  3. Mix in the plant-based milk and vanilla extract until just combined.
  4. In a separate medium bowl, whisk together the flour, baking soda, and salt.
  5. Gradually add the dry ingredients to the wet ingredients, mixing on low speed until just combined. Do not overmix the dough.
  6. Fold in the vegan chocolate chips using a spatula.
  7. Scoop rounded tablespoons of dough onto the prepared baking sheets, leaving about 2 inches between each cookie. You do not need to chill this dough.
  8. Bake for 10 to 12 minutes, or until the edges are set and lightly golden brown. The centers should still look slightly soft.
  9. Remove the cookies from the oven and let them cool on the baking sheet for 5 minutes before transferring them to a wire rack to cool completely. They will firm up as they cool, giving you that perfect chewy texture.

Notes

  • For extra gooey chocolate chip cookies vegan style, press a few extra chocolate chips onto the tops of the dough balls right before baking.
  • If your vegan butter is too soft, chill the dough for just 15 minutes to make scooping easier, though chilling is not required for texture.
  • This recipe makes the best vegan cookies recipe that tastes like classic comfort food vegan treats.
