Make these adorable melted snowman sugar cookies for a fun and festive holiday treat. This recipe uses simple steps, making it perfect for baking with kids.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 package (16.3 ounces) refrigerated sugar cookie dough (or use your favorite no chill sugar cookie dough)
  • 1 cup powdered sugar
  • 2 tablespoons milk
  • 1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1 bag large marshmallows
  • 1 bag mini marshmallows
  • Orange sprinkles or small orange candies (for noses)
  • Mini chocolate chips (for eyes and arms)
  • Small candy pieces or colored icing (for scarves)

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to the temperature specified on the sugar cookie dough package. Line baking sheets with parchment paper.
  2. Prepare the cookie base: Roll or cut the sugar cookie dough into circles, about 3 inches in diameter. Place them on the prepared baking sheets.
  3. Bake the cookies according to the package directions until lightly golden brown around the edges. Let the cookies cool completely on a wire rack.
  4. Make the royal icing: In a small bowl, whisk together the powdered sugar, milk, and vanilla extract until smooth. You want a thick but pourable consistency for the ‘melted’ look. Add a few more drops of milk if the icing is too thick.
  5. Decorate the cookies: Dip the top of each cooled cookie into the white icing, allowing some of the icing to drip slightly over the edges to create the melted puddle effect. Let the icing set slightly, about 5 minutes.
  6. Assemble the snowman: Place one large marshmallow near the top center of the icing puddle to form the snowman’s head. Place one mini marshmallow on top of the large marshmallow for the top of the head.
  7. Add facial features: Press two mini chocolate chips into the large marshmallow for eyes. Press an orange sprinkle or small orange candy into the center of the large marshmallow for the nose.
  8. Add arms and scarf: Press two mini chocolate chips into the sides of the large marshmallow to look like stick arms. Drape a small candy piece or pipe a line of colored icing across the neck area for a scarf.
  9. Allow the icing to dry completely before serving or storing your cute Christmas cookie crafts.

Notes

  • For a quicker version, use pre-made, flat sugar cookies instead of baking your own dough.
  • If you want a richer chocolate flavor for the arms, use melted dark chocolate in a piping bag with a small tip.
  • Store finished cookies in an airtight container at room temperature for up to 3 days.
